A lush urban oasis in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach. This captivating neighborhood provides a unique experience, boasting local shops, restaurants, events, and innovative living and workspaces.
A focal point of this dynamic environment is the permanent installation by Danish artist Jeppe Hein. This installation comprises two intersecting rings with vertical water curtains, forming a fountain with a whimsical design. The result is a one-of-a-kind interactive experience that emits a playful embrace of this public artwork.
We sought two distinct stones to achieve the desired contrast aspired by the artist while delivering a harmonious effect. Naturally, this led us to an Italian quarry. Here, we discovered a stone that offered ample variation in both color and homogeneity. Following the fountain design, the architect directed the creation of a field tile surrounding the mall, connecting the walkways to the fountain.
The fountain’s design was presented in a digital model, and our goal was to source two distinct stones capable of realizing the interconnected rings. Our challenge was to select stones that met the durability requirements and adhered to the specifications for an outdoor playground, ensuring a resilient and inviting environment for the Square’s guests.
In the pursuit of merging beauty and functionality, we worked with two marbles to achieve an anti-slip finish, perfect for children’s play and inviting for bare feet. This finish was applied in our facility on raw slabs, and our CNC technology ensured precise fabrication and numbering for the installation. Expertly cutting the fountain pieces, we used crushed marble versions to fashion a custom terrazzo for the field tile, combining aesthetics and utility in the surrounding area.
